Cardinals RB Beanie Wells hasn't been participating in OTAs but hopes to be ready for training camp in a couple months. He's recovering from late-January knee surgery. It was initially described as minor, but the fact that Wells is still being held out of workouts suggests otherwise. The knee nagged him all last year, although Wells still racked up a career-high 1,047 yards in 14 games. He'll still be an injury-risk in 2012 fantasy drafts. |

Seahawks GM John Schneider confirmed that WR Doug Baldwin will continue to play in the slot in 2012. “He can play outside, but he can be a dominant inside player,” Schneider said. “He’s got a real natural feel for sitting down in a zone, stemming guys and breaking off outside. He’s got really quick hands, and real long arms.” Baldwin finished his 2011 rookie campaign with 51 catches, 792 yards, and 4 TDs. He produced 42 catches, 650 yards, and 3 scores from the slot, where he played 59% of his total snaps. Baldwin ranked 39th among WRs in standard-scoring last year. He's capable of taking another step forward in 2012 -- especially if he gets improved QB play from Matt Flynn. Meanwhile, WRs Sidney Rice and Golden Tate are the favorites to play outside for Seattle. |

While Jaguars OC Bob Bratkowski admits that WR Justin Blackmon still has some work to do in learning the offense, he says the 1st-rounder is "ahead of where you think most rookies would be." Blackmon missed the final day of rookie minicamp with a sore foot caused by new cleats. But he's back on the field at OTAs. And he's impressing already. “We watched him doing a drill, he looks an absolute stud,” LB Paul Posluszny said. Blackmon figures to step right in as Jacksonville's #1 WR. His fantasy impact will hinge on what kind of QB play he gets from Blaine Gabbert and/or Chad Henne. |

Cardinals HC Ken Whisenhunt reiterated that John Skelton and Kevin Kolb will be given an equal shot to win the team's starting QB job this summer. “I think the knee-jerk reaction would be to say that it is Kevin’s job to lose,” Whiz said. “But then you have to look at what John Skelton did last year in winning those games when he was in there. So I think you have to give John a lot of credit for winning those games. I certainly have a lot of respect for Kevin and what he’s done in this league and we made the commitment to bring him in to our football team. So it’s going to start out as even as it possibly can, and we’re going to let the best player take it from there." Skelton completed just 55% of his passes and tossed 14 INTs to just 11 TDs last year. But he did win 6 of his 8 games. Although Kolb's numbers were a bit better, he only came away with 2 victories. Our money is on Kolb winning this training camp battle, but his mediocre skill-set and minimal job security will make him a weak fantasy option. |

Bears WR Brandon Marshall won't face any legal charges for his role in a nightclub fight this past March. Police were unable to find ample evidence against B-Marsh. Although he continues to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, Marshall shouldn't face any discipline from the league for this one. He remains on the commissioner's "watch list" though. |

Forget about LeSean McCoy's contract becoming a distraction. The Eagles announced an extension for their young star RB on Thursday. Pro Football Talk reported it as a five-year $45 million deal. That's about $1.5 million more than Arian Foster got from the Texans over the same timeframe, with almost exactly the same amount in guarantees. It seems a fair deal for both sides. At just 23, McCoy has a good chance at staying poroductive through the life of the contract. The Eagles pay market value for 1 of the game's top runners. Now McCoy can focus on putting up top-5 RB numbers for fantasy owners again and going among the top 4 picks across fantasy drafts. |

With his nagging foot problems behind him, Chargers TE Antonio Gates has been a full participant in OTAs. "Gates looks great — he's back," HC Norv Turner said. "Physically, he's back to where we want him to be. I think, like anybody, going through this offseason program helps you get better. (It's) the combination of conditioning, the combination of getting better in the areas you can improve, and being out there with your teammates." Gates turns 32 years old next month and is certainly past his prime. He no longer belongs atop the fantasy TE rankings but is still a top-5 option. |

Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) believes he has a legitimate chance to be ready for training camp. "To be honest with you I feel like 50-50," AP said. "I feel like honestly, sitting here telling you the truth, I'll be able to participate doing certain things. I think I'll be able to participate... I feel like I will be able to get out there and you call a run play or whatever, I'll be able to go through practice... But I'm going to follow the protocol. Whatever the Vikings and their staff want me to do, then I'm gonna do that; but I'm not going to hinder myself. I'm going to let those guys know how I feel, so if I'm able to get out there and get a couple of reps or whatever, then I'm going to participate in that way. But I'm sure they've got my best interests in hand, so we'll work it out." There's no reason for Minnesota to rush Peterson in his recovery from last year's torn ACL. We're not expecting him to do much -- if anything -- in camp. But the takeaway here is that AP continues to be on track to play in the season-opener. |

Titans WR Kenny Britt is still expected to be ready for the season-opener after undergoing a knee scope on Wednesday. “I don’t know if he’s going to be ready the first day of training camp or not,” GM Ruston Webster admitted. “We’ll just have to wait and see. I do think he’ll be ready for the season, and if you remember, we went through this last year where he didn’t play preseason games or played the last preseason game and was ready to go." Britt missed most of training camp last year and played only a few exhibition snaps. But he exploded for 271 yards and 3 scores in the first 2 weeks of the regular season. We're not as concerned about the missed camp time as we are about the ability of Britt's knee to make it through the entire year. |

Bengals QB Andy Dalton has packed on some muscle this offseason in an effort to improve his arm strength. Beat writer Geoff Hobson has noticed "more zip" on Dalton's ball in OTAs. QBs coach Ken Zampese sees improvement too. "He's got a better base to throw from now than he did during the season, which gives you the distance and the arc," Zampese said. "He's got more control of himself when he gets back there with the fifth step. It's more balanced." There were questions about Dalton's arm strength coming into the league last year, but it didn't appear to be an issue to us. The increased velocity can only help though. It's also good news for WR A.J. Green, who has the deep speed to take advantage. |

Saints QB Drew Brees is frustrated by the lack of progress in his negotiations for a new long-term deal. "I don't think the negotiation should have been this difficult," Brees said. "We've reached out on a number of occasions and at times I've been frustrated by the lack of response." Brees also sounded a bit offended by the team's current offer: "I would say that the numbers that have been thrown around by ESPN and some of these other places, at times, have been pretty heavily inflated." The deadline for franchise players to sign long-term deals is July 16th. We still expect Brees to be signed, sealed, and delivered before then. As long as he's there for the start of training camp, his fantasy stock will be unaffected. |

It sounds like Rams WR Greg Salas is fully recovered from the broken leg that ended his rookie season last November. He was impressive at OTAs on Wednesday. "He made a few grabs for touchdowns during some red zone work including one perfectly run route where he turned [CB Bradley] Fletcher inside out," observed Rams.com's Nick Wagoner. Salas caught 27 balls for 264 yards in just 6 games last season. But he'll need to fight playing time this summer after St. Louis' additions of Brian Quick, Chris Givens, and Steve Smith. |

Rams WR Danario Alexander has been limited at OTAs with a sore hamstring. We usually don't worry about minor injuries at this point of the year, but this is just another reminder that Alexander simply can't stay healthy. He's appeared in only 18 games over the past 2 seasons. After St. Louis' additions of Brian Quick, Chris Givens, and Steve Smith this offseason, Alexander is far from a lock to make the final roster. |

Titans WR Kenny Britt is undergoing a 2nd knee surgery today after tearing his ACL and MCL last September. The first procedure took place in October. This one is being described as "minor" and "arthroscopic" in nature. It's still an obvious concern though. Britt is expected to be sidelined for the next week or two, and the team now only "hopes" that he'll be ready for the season-opener. We'll continue to track Britt's progress over the next few months, but he's shaping up as an extremely risky fantasy selection this summer. |

Colts beat writer Mike Chappell reports that RB Delone Carter is recovering from offseason thumb surgery. We're not sure when Carter suffered the injury. He left the Week 15 game what the team called a "forearm" injury but returned the following week. We do know that Carter is tentatively expected to be ready for the starting of training camp, where he'll look to push RB Donald Brown for carries. We'll pass along more information when we get it.

Broncos VP of Football Operations confirmed that the team views 2nd-round rookie Brock Osweiler as their QB of the future. "When we looked at Brock, the ability to get that type of quarterback, who I believe has a tremendous amount of upside, I feel like we got great value with that pick," Elway said. "We are set for the future, and he's our guy for the future. Sometimes you have to sacrifice the short term for the long term to draft a guy that you believe can be that next guy for you, and that's Brock Osweiler." The Arizona State product is extremely raw but boasts the size (6'7, 238 pounds) and arm to develop into a big-time signal-caller. Learning from Peyton Manning won't hurt either. Osweiler is a worthwhile stash in keeper and dynasty leagues. |

Looking for a new contract, Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew is skipping the OTAs this week. He also sat out voluntary team workouts back in mid-April. MJD has 2 years left on his current deal and is set to make $4.45 million in 2012. That'd make him just the 8th-highest paid back in the league. Jones-Drew certainly has a beef here, but we'd expect the two sides to work out a restructured deal before training camp opens. As long as that happens, this will be a non-story. Sitting out these OTAs may actually be a good thing for Jones-Drew after carrying a career-high 343 times last season. |

Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray (ankle) confirmed that he's been medically-cleared by team doctors. He's been running since February and cutting since early-May. “It's great,” Murray said. “I've been officially cleared by our doctors and I've been doing everything the past month or two without any limitations. I feel great.” The ankle won't be a concern heading into 2012, but we'd still highlight Murray as an injury-risk. He was consistently banged-up during college and also dealt with a bum hamstring last summer. |

Bears WRs coach Darryl Drake confirmed that WR Devin Hester will see fewer offensive snaps in 2012. "It's just a matter of not having him play 70 plays and throw to him twice," Drake said. "Play him 15 [plays], let him touch it 13 [times.] In order for him to be effective, we don't need to have him out there playing that many plays." This was a foregone conclusion after the Bears added WRs Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery this offseason. Hester has never been effective as a WR, topping out 57 catches and 757 yards in 2009. While Chicago will keep him involved on offense with a special package of plays, Hester will only be a fantasy factor in return-yardage leagues this season. |

Bucs RB LeGarrette Blount revealed that he dropped 5-10 pounds this offseason in hopes of holding off rookie Doug Martin for the team's lead back role. "I've been showing I can be an every down back," Blount said. "Them drafting a running back might be what I needed to become an every down back." Slimming down won't improve Blount's pass-catching skills or ball-security. Martin remains our pick to win the starting job this summer. Blount may actually want to pack some pounds back on if he's going to be reduced to a short-yardage/goal line guy. |
